Sun’s OpenSolaris users and community have expressed the need for proper auditing of events in OpenSolaris. Until not long ago, all operating system audit trails were left unsecured in each local machine. This need generated a proposal that finalized in Sun creating a plugin (called audit_remote) that would send audit trails to any receiver -not developed by Sun- that subsequently catches and secures these audit trails for securing them.
As part of the OpenSolaris community, Kinamik is the only software developer that has developed the receiver that effectively enables the secure transmission of audit trails to a remote storage. This receiver, included in the Kinamik Secure Audit Vault, secures data in real time, providing end-to-end trust in the audit information. By using this combined solution, OpenSolaris users benefit by: 1) Reducing significantly and virtually eliminating the security gap in which any manipulation goes undetected, regardless of access controls privileges; even administrators of applications, OS or databases cannot make a single change without being detected. 2) Reduce risk of unwanted manipulation by achieving end-to-end security trust, from data generation through to long term retention, storage and archiving.
